The grieving mother of the late Afrobeat sensation Afeez Adeshina, widely known as Destiny Boy, has shared intimate details about his tragic demise.
The artist, who skyrocketed to fame after his viral Fuji rendition of Davido’s If, succumbed to a mysterious long-standing ailment called “Ogu oru” on Sunday, January 18, 2025, a condition that frequently triggered severe seizures.
In an emotional video circulating online, Saida revealed that her son’s health struggles were a closely guarded secret, managed through a mix of medical and spiritual intervention.
She recounted how the illness nearly derailed his life but was concealed to protect his public image.
“Destiny left us too soon. Just days after his child’s naming ceremony, we visited Oba Edu Ifayomi, who spiritually initiated him. The Oba cherished him like a son and even gifted a ram for the celebration. That’s when the seizure struck, knocking him unconscious.
“We rushed him to the hospital, and Oba Edu pledged his support, continually funding his treatment across multiple facilities. When conventional medicine failed, we sought traditional remedies, and the Oba welcomed him into his care—I even bathed him with sacred soap.
“Afterward, he stabilized. ‘Ogu oru’ tormented him relentlessly, nearly driving him to madness. We were his constant guardians, ensuring he never harmed himself during episodes.”
Dismissing sensationalized rumors, Saida firmly stated: “My son never dabbled in rituals. Those fabricating such lies are profiting from his tragedy.”
Reflecting on his final moments, she shared: “The day before his passing, he was handing out gifts, chatting with fans, and preparing for a performance. Then, the seizures returned.”
She also highlighted Oba Edu Ifayomi’s unwavering role in his holistic treatment, blending spiritual guidance with traditional healing.
Destiny Boy had welcomed his first child just two months before his death, marking a bittersweet chapter in his life.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that investigations remain active, with updates to follow.
No one killed my son, he has been sick since with strange illness right from childhood. The Babaláwo didn’t kill him or perfomed any money ritual for him. They were only trying to help.
