Months After Mr Ibu's Passing, His Family Struggles with Hardship

The bereaved family of legendary Nollywood comedian John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr. Ibu, has shared heartbreaking details of their struggles after losing their patriarch.

Popular digital creator King Mitchy recently visited the household, where he discovered that the late actor’s three children could no longer attend school because of severe financial constraints.

The family also faces crippling utilities issues—having endured weeks without electricity or running water after being disconnected due to unpaid bills.

In a tearful account, the children’s mother described their daily challenges: walking long distances to fetch well water, living in darkness for months, and desperately seeking neighbors willing to charge their phones at night.

Mr. Ibu’s eldest daughter emotionally honored her mother’s resilience while making a passionate plea for assistance to Nigerians who collaborated with her late father.

“My mom has been our rock, working tirelessly just to put food on our table and keep us in school. To anyone who knew or worked with Daddy in Nollywood, we beg you—please don’t forget us now in our time of need,” she appealed.

Between sobs, their mother confirmed receiving another notice from the children’s school about mounting unpaid tuition fees.

The comedy icon had undergone a traumatic leg amputation in late 2023 after battling a mysterious illness requiring multiple surgeries.

His passing on March 2, 2024, from sudden cardiac arrest at age 62 sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
