Mohbad

The Aloba family has once again called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the untimely passing of Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. In a recent statement, they emphasized the need for transparency to ensure justice is served.

The family, represented by Omolayo Aloba and Joseph Aloba (Mohbad’s father), also urged the late artist’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, to refrain from using their surname until a court-mandated DNA test establishes the paternity of their child.

Their statement read in part: “The Aloba family remains steadfast in demanding an independent and credible probe into Mohbad’s de@th. We are dedicated to uncovering the truth, delivering justice, and holding all responsible parties accountable.”

To handle legal proceedings concerning the estate and DNA verification, the family has appointed Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys as their sole counsel. Additionally, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue representing them in investigative matters related to Mohbad’s passing.

Regarding the late artist’s estate, the family designated three administrators—Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba—to oversee assets, royalties, and intellectual properties. They also reserved a position for Wunmi if DNA results confirm her child’s paternity.

Their statement clarified: “The administrators are instructed to secure letters of administration to lawfully handle all estate matters. Meanwhile, Wunmi Adebanjo must cease using the Aloba surname pending paternity confirmation, as no formal marriage rites were fulfilled.”

The family assured the public that the DNA test is not meant to target anyone but to ensure fairness in estate distribution. They also confirmed that Mohbad’s burial and memorial will be announced after legal formalities conclude.

In response, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, dismissed the surname directive as unlawful, citing constitutional rights. He accused the family of evading the DNA test despite court orders, stating: “They sought the test but ignored multiple invitations. My client is willing to comply—anytime, anywhere.”

This dispute follows Mohbad’s controversial de@th in September 2023 at age 27, prompting a police probe. A coroner’s court is currently reviewing the case, with paternity and estate issues remaining contentious.

Earlier reports confirm that Mohbad’s father filed for an inquiry into his son’s de@th and pursued DNA confirmation regarding his grandson’s lineage.
