John Shittu, the former representative of retired Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi, has responded to allegations that he attempted to bribe former Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia on the player’s behalf.
As previously reported, Siasia alleged that Shittu proposed €50,000 to ensure Mikel Obi’s inclusion in the 2008 Olympics squad, despite the midfielder missing the qualifiers.
“Before the Olympics, Mikel wanted to join the team. His agent offered me €50,000 to select him,” Siasia claimed.
Siasia maintained that he refused the bribe and left Mikel Obi out of the squad, which later achieved a silver medal victory.
Shittu, in a discussion with The Cable, disclosed that Siasia later contacted him to retract his earlier statements.
“I am among the most reputable agents in football,” Shittu asserted.
“I don’t associate myself with discredited or insignificant individuals.”
