Ngal Ayel Mukau, the Congolese midfielder, revealed that his team had no specific tactical approach to neutralize Cristiano Ronaldo during their 2026 World Cup qualifier.
In a tightly contested match on Wednesday, the Leopards managed a 1-1 draw against Portugal, with Joao Neves’ opener being canceled out by Yohan Wissa’s equalizing header.
Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, Mukau admitted that while Ronaldo remains an elite player, his influence on the pitch has evolved.
“Did we devise a special plan to stop Ronaldo?” Mukau stated. “Honestly, no.”
“We recognize he’s not the same player he once was—age affects everyone. But make no mistake, he’s still world-class, and I hold immense respect for his legacy.”
Mukau’s comments come amid growing debates among fans and analysts over whether Ronaldo should reduce his playing time for Portugal.
