Toke Makinwa

Media mogul Toke Makinwa has ignited a fiery discussion on societal norms after challenging traditional views on gold-digging, asserting that men often take the lead in seeking financial advantage through marriage.

During a recent episode of her popular podcast, Makinwa dismantled the pervasive stereotype that women primarily target wealthy partners for economic stability.

The outspoken host condemned the double standards in labeling women as gold diggers while ignoring men who pursue affluent partners.

“Society loves shaming women for having standards,”
she declared.

“Men flood podcasts with rants about women chasing money, yet they’re the ones shamelessly marrying into generational wealth.”

She emphasized that men frequently engage in strategic marriages without facing the same backlash.

“They walk into wealth with zero hesitation—no guilt, no judgment,”
she added.

Makinwa, however, clarified that she doesn’t resent such choices, acknowledging financial pragmatism as a longstanding marital consideration.

“I’m not criticizing them,” she stated, underscoring that economic factors influence both genders in relationships.

To illustrate her stance, she shared personal advice she’d offer to family:

“If my brother asked me to choose between two partners, I’d steer him toward the one with financial stability,”
she admitted.
