Mo Abudu

Media magnate Mo Abudu has revealed she won’t adopt dance-themed promotions for her films, emphasizing that the strategy doesn’t complement her personal brand or creative vision.

She made these remarks during her keynote at the Lagos Business of Film Summit, discussing evolving marketing trends in Nollywood.

While applauding filmmakers Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham for their viral dance campaigns that drive cinema attendance, Abudu acknowledged the method isn’t her forte.

The EbonyLife CEO clarified she lacks both the enthusiasm and aptitude for such promotional tactics, having explicitly instructed her team to assign dance-related tasks to others.

Abudu stressed the importance of filmmakers recognizing their unique strengths as industry dynamics shift and audience preferences diversify.

“When I see Funke and Toyin’s dedication, I marvel at their stamina,” Abudu remarked. “But I’ve been clear with my team—dancing isn’t my department. Find those who can deliver that energy.”

She emphasized the need for customized approaches to box office success, stating: “There’s no universal playbook—we must each identify what resonates with our brand and audience.”
