Alexander Isak has finalized a record-breaking transfer to join Liverpool.
Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United to secure Isak on a six-year contract.
Both The Telegraph and renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirm the deal, marking the conclusion of the summer’s most high-profile transfer saga, with personal terms already settled.
Isak is scheduled to undergo a medical at Liverpool on Monday before the summer transfer window closes at 7pm, finalizing the British-record move.
The transfer surpasses the previous British record of £115m, set when Chelsea signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton in 2023.
Earlier in August, Liverpool’s £110m bid plus add-ons was rejected by Newcastle, who valued Isak at £150m and insisted on specific conditions for his departure.
Newcastle expressed disappointment earlier this month after Isak publicly voiced his desire to leave the club in a social media post.
Following his inclusion in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, Isak wrote on Instagram: ‘I’m honored to be recognized by my peers with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.
‘First, I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United for their support.
‘I won’t attend the ceremony tonight. Given the circumstances, it didn’t feel appropriate.
‘I’ve remained silent while others have spoken, allowing false narratives to spread despite knowing the truth behind closed doors.
‘The reality is that promises were made, and the club has long known my stance. Pretending these issues are new is misleading.’
‘When trust is broken, the relationship can’t continue. That’s why change is necessary for everyone involved.’
Newcastle responded with a statement denying any agreement for Isak’s departure.
‘We are disappointed by Alexander Isak’s recent social media post,’ the statement read.
‘We reiterate that Alex remains under contract, and no club official has ever committed to his departure this summer.’
Since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has scored 62 goals and provided 11 assists in 109 appearances.
