Maria Sol Messi, younger sister of global soccer icon Lionel Messi, is recovering after a traumatic car crash in Miami, forcing her to delay her highly anticipated wedding.
Sources from Argentina confirm the 32-year-old fashion entrepreneur sustained severe injuries—including spinal damage, wrist fractures, and burns—when her vehicle veered out of control and smashed into a barrier.
Angel de Brito, a prominent Argentinian journalist, shared the latest developments during a segment on LAM, a US-based television show.
“While Maria Sol is no longer in critical condition, her injuries required immediate hospitalization. Her January 3 wedding in Rosario has been rescheduled as she undergoes treatment,” he revealed.
De Brito noted that her recovery may be prolonged, given the extent of her injuries, which include displaced vertebrae alongside burn wounds. She has since flown back to Rosario to begin physical therapy.
Additional insight from her mother, Celia Cuccittini, disclosed that Maria Sol fractured two vertebrae alongside a broken heel and wrist. Preliminary reports suggest she lost consciousness while driving, leading to the collision.
Despite discrepancies in eyewitness accounts, relatives reassured the public that while her condition is severe, it’s not fatal. Her nuptials to Julián “Tuli” Arellano, coach of Inter Miami’s youth squad, have been postponed indefinitely.
Though known for steering clear of the limelight, Maria Sol has made strides as a fashion entrepreneur, previously managing Lionel’s apparel venture, The Messi Store, alongside Virginia Hilfiger.
