Robert Stafford, father of chart-topping artist Lil Nas X, has spoken out about the emotional toll of witnessing his son’s sudden incarceration following a highly publicized meltdown in Los Angeles.
The Grammy-winning performer, known for global hits like “Old Town Road,” was taken into custody after allegedly disrobing in public and clashing with law enforcement.
After spending nearly a week behind bars, the 26-year-old rapper was granted release.
In an emotional interview, Stafford described the overwhelming moment he first saw his son in custody.
“Walking into that visitation room shattered me,” Stafford confessed. “Seeing him confined like that—we just wept together through the glass.”
The devastated father also shared the poignant request Montero made during their jailhouse meeting.
“He kept saying, ‘Dad, please tell everyone I’m sorry they had to see me that way,’” Stafford revealed. “Even at his lowest, he was thinking about others.”
During their emotional exchange, the supportive parent offered his son much-needed perspective.
“This doesn’t define you,” Stafford told him. “Everyone stumbles—your struggles just happened to be on camera.”
Following his release, the music star addressed fans directly via social media.
“I’ll be alright, loves,” he assured in a video post, describing his jail experience as “harrowing” but expressing relief to be free and focused on recovery.
Legal proceedings continue as the artist faces multiple felony charges, including alleged altercations with arresting officers.
