Nigerian reality TV personality Leo Dasilva has raised alarms about the rampant spread of fake goods flooding local markets.
The ex-Big Brother Naija contestant took to X to share his unsettling experience of accidentally purchasing multiple knockoff products from a well-known Abuja supermarket.
He disclosed that in a single month, he fell victim to fake cod liver oil, Gestid, Sensodyne toothpaste, Simple face wash, deodorant, and several other personal care items.
Leo urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to launch surprise inspections across Abuja’s major retail outlets.
He emphasized that counterfeit pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products present grave dangers to consumer health.
His post read: “Nigeria’s counterfeit epidemic has reached absurd levels with phony medicines, imitation deodorants, knockoff toothpaste, and fake skincare products flooding stores.”
“Shockingly, within 30 days, I’ve been duped into buying fake cod liver oil, fake Gestid, counterfeit Sensodyne, imitation Simple face wash, and bogus deodorant.”
“NAFDAC must immediately conduct raids on all major supermarkets in Abuja.”
The amount of fake drugs, fake deodorants, fake toothpaste and fake skin care in Nigeria is ridiculous.
In one month, I have bought fake codliver oil, fake Gestid, fake sensodyne, fake Simple face wash, fake deodorant, etc.
NAFDAC need to raid all big supermarkets in Abuja.
