Leo DaSilva

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Leo DaSilva has called out Yoruba elders, accusing them of sacrificing generational wealth for short-term gains by selling family land to Igbo buyers.

His comments came in response to an analysis by social commentator Scott Iguma, who exposed underlying issues in Nigeria’s real estate sector and inter-tribal dynamics.

Iguma had addressed growing ethnic tensions in Lagos, arguing that Yoruba complaints about “outsiders” overlook their own role in the situation. He emphasized that Igbo land acquisitions resulted from legitimate purchases rather than conquest.

The commentator criticized how Yoruba traditional leaders allegedly prioritize personal enrichment over community development, spending land sale proceeds on luxury vehicles instead of infrastructure or youth empowerment programs.

He proposed that regional leaders should develop alternative economic hubs outside Lagos by constructing modern seaports and upgrading airport facilities elsewhere to redistribute development and reduce pressure on Lagos.

Iguma further highlighted the economic benefits of diversity, noting that multinational companies based in Lagos contribute significantly to state coffers through taxes that fund public services used by all residents.

DaSilva’s intervention shifted focus to intra-familial conflicts, blaming greedy relatives for creating situations where ancestral properties become vulnerable to external acquisition due to infighting over unearned assets.

The reality TV star tweeted: “This constant joke about Yoruba elders selling land to Igbos exposes our own failings. When parents prioritize personal gain over family legacy and fight their siblings over inheritance, they create this mess that makes our entire ethnicity a subject of ridicule.”
