Renowned attorney Emeka Ugwuonye has officially stepped down as legal counsel for May Edochie amid rising tensions with her ardent supporters.
Ugwuonye previously served as May’s lead representative during her highly publicized marital conflict with actor Yul Edochie.
A candid statement published by Due Process Advocate on social media revealed the lawyer’s decision stemmed from persistent online abuse allegedly perpetrated by members of the ‘May Nation’ fanbase.
Ugwuonye disclosed that what began as a professional collaboration seeking justice for May ultimately collapsed under pressure from aggressive social media campaigns targeting his firm.
The legal practitioner expressed particular concern about staff members enduring increasingly hostile interactions from May’s supporters – encounters he described as surpassing previous conflicts with Yul’s defenders.
While maintaining sympathy for May’s circumstances as a victim of marital betrayal and imposed polygamy, Ugwuonye underscored how the digital vitriol hindered effective legal representation.
The law firm affirmed its commitment to facilitating a smooth transition for incoming legal representatives, though Ugwuonye will no longer participate in ongoing proceedings.
“Our professional relationship with Ms. Edochie has reached its conclusion,” the statement read. “The untenable hostility from certain factions among her supporters created an environment where successful representation became impossible.”
“While we fully recognize May’s victimhood in this situation, the current climate makes continued legal service impractical,” the announcement continued.
The firm confirmed plans to assist May’s subsequent legal team with necessary case documents and information transfers.
