Four years following his tragic passing, a legal battle has erupted between the parents of the late Migos rapper Takeoff concerning the division of a wrongful death settlement tied to his untimely demise.
Takeoff, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, was fatally shot on November 1, 2022, outside a Houston-area bowling alley at just 28 years old. At the time, he was in the company of his uncle and fellow Migos artist, Quavo.
Patrick Xavier Clark was later arrested and charged in relation to the incident but remains free on bond as his trial proceeds.
Legal filings reveal a dispute between Takeoff’s mother, Titania Davenport, and his father, Kenneth Ball, over how the settlement money should be split and which state’s laws should apply.
Davenport initially filed the wrongful death lawsuit in Texas, asserting that she was Takeoff’s primary caregiver, raising him as a single mother and supporting him before his rise to fame. Once successful, she claims, Takeoff financially supported her in return.
She has further stated that Ball had little involvement in his son’s upbringing, providing minimal financial or emotional support, and that Takeoff never assisted him financially.
Ball, however, insists he’s legally entitled to half the settlement, regardless of his past involvement. He argues Texas is the proper legal jurisdiction, while Davenport maintains the case should shift to Georgia, where probate matters for Takeoff’s estate are already underway.
The dispute is now pending a judicial ruling on both the funds’ distribution and the jurisdictional question. No official decision has been made as of now.
