Popular Lagos influencer Big Mimz has sparked a fiery online discussion after boldly declaring that dating in Lagos is nothing short of a fraudulent scheme. Speaking with Egungun of Lagos, she painted a grim picture of contemporary romance, labeling it as opportunistic and riddled with deception.
“Love in Lagos? It’s all a con,” she asserted. “If your pockets are empty, steer clear of relationships—Lagos guys will exploit you. Better to play the game first and take their cash before they take advantage of you.”
Despite her own relatively smooth dating history, her blunt stance resonates with many young Lagosians struggling to balance affection and ambition in a hyper-competitive urban environment.
The outspoken creator doubled down, claiming that financial agendas and façades now dominate the city’s dating landscape.
“Chase the money first, love follows later,” she quipped, insisting, “Faking it works in Lagos. Look at the successful ones—they all pretended their way to the top.”
