A newly constructed interim facility spanning 8,000 square meters will serve international travelers throughout the renovation period.

 Lagos Airport Terminal

Authorities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport have revealed plans to temporarily suspend operations at Terminal 1 starting March 2026 for extensive modernization.

The comprehensive renovation is projected to take approximately 22 months to complete, transforming the aging international gateway.

Travelers will be processed through a state-of-the-art temporary structure that’s nearing completion, capable of servicing multiple international carriers simultaneously.

Initial operations will focus on accommodating flights from select major airlines before expanding capacity.

Airport officials advise allowing additional check-in time during the transition to temporary facilities to avoid travel disruptions.

While departures shift locations, existing infrastructure will maintain uninterrupted service for incoming flights and air cargo operations.

Key enhancements will feature an innovative elevated walkway linking both terminals, upgraded access roads, and expanded aircraft parking zones designed for jumbo jets.

This ambitious infrastructure project aims to significantly boost operational efficiency and passenger comfort at Nigeria’s premier aviation hub.
