Renowned legal advocate Inibehe Effiong has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1.
Effiong asserted that KWAM1 received preferential treatment due to his close ties with President Bola Tinubu, unlike ordinary citizens facing similar allegations.
Speaking on Channels TV, the human rights lawyer dismissed KWAM1’s public apology as insufficient, stressing that criminal acts must face legal consequences. He drew parallels to imprisoned kidnapper Evans, who also apologized, questioning why only the powerful benefit from leniency while others remain incarcerated.
The lawyer warned that Nigeria’s justice system risks collapse if it continues favoring the elite over ordinary citizens.
In his interview, Effiong stated:
“Every prisoner in Kirikiri would gladly apologize for their freedom. Evans the kidnapper has expressed remorse – should we release him too, now that apologies substitute for justice? Abike Erewa claims ‘to err is human,’ but if apologies absolve crimes, this privilege must extend to all Nigerians equally.
KWAM1’s actions were egregious – his audacity stems from presidential connections. An alleged threatening audio recording further proves his sense of impunity. This culture of preferential treatment must end.”
