Nollywood star Kunle Remi has voiced his concerns over how Lagos is being depicted during American streamer IShowSpeed’s ambitious African tour.
Arriving in Lagos last week, IShowSpeed’s ‘Speed Does Africa’ tour is a month-long livestream journey showcasing the continent’s vibrant cultures, communities, and breathtaking scenery.
Nigeria served as the 15th destination on this marathon expedition, introducing global viewers to its diverse heritage—though Kunle argues the portrayal missed the mark.
Sharing his candid reaction on Instagram, the actor labeled Nigeria the “lowest point” of Speed’s travels so far, claiming the stream failed to capture the nation’s true spirit.
Kunle accused the coverage of reducing Lagos to hollow stereotypes, devoid of meaningful cultural insight beyond nightlife and gimmicks.
His post suggested that Nigeria’s rich traditions and authenticity were overshadowed by flashy but shallow moments aimed at virality.
“After tracking IShowSpeed’s journey, Nigeria disappoints the most. Lagos was exposed—bare, with nothing substantive underneath,” he wrote.
“Our cultural heartbeat is fading. Instead, we parade overpriced liquor, parties, and cringeworthy antics.”
