Kalu Aja

Financial expert Kalu Aja has weighed in on the ongoing conflict between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and PENGASSAN following the abrupt termination of Nigerian employees.

In a recent statement, Aja cautioned against allowing unionization at the refinery, warning that it could lead to inefficiencies similar to those seen in state-run entities.

He argued that permitting PENGASSAN to organize workers would transform Dangote Refinery into a bureaucratic institution like NNPC, undermining its operational effectiveness.

Aja challenged the union to invest in its own refinery rather than pushing for labor representation at Dangote’s facility.

“If PENGASSAN wants unionized workers, they should construct their own refinery. Once unions infiltrate Dangote’s operations, it’s destined to mirror NNPC’s inefficiencies,”
he posted on X.

This reaction follows the refinery’s sudden dismissal of its entire Nigerian workforce shortly after a majority joined PENGASSAN.

Management attributed the move to a restructuring effort aimed at addressing alleged sabotage within the organization.

PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo condemned the mass layoffs, vowing to take action to ensure the workers are reinstated.
