A Nigerian court has set September 29, 2026, as the date for judgment in a case urging authorities to reinvestigate the controversial death of musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously known as Mohbad.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja announced the timeline Thursday after reviewing submissions from Break the Silence Foundation, the NGO spearheading the legal action.

The case, filed under number FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026, targets the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and Lagos State Police Command. No legal representation appeared for the defendants during the session.

Chief Tunde Falola, counsel for the foundation, presented the organization’s case, requesting the court to mandate a fresh inquiry into the musician’s untimely passing.

Proceedings were briefly interrupted when Samson Obaboye petitioned to join the case as an interested party, claiming to possess vital information about Mohbad’s demise. The court swiftly rejected his application, citing insufficient legal grounds.

This lawsuit follows an earlier court authorization allowing the foundation to pursue judicial review and a mandamus order compelling new investigations.

Speaking outside the courtroom, Falola emphasized the unresolved questions surrounding Mohbad’s death, particularly concerning individuals last seen with the artist before his passing. “There remain too many unanswered questions,” the attorney stated, “and our pursuit is simply for truth and accountability.”

The dismissed joinder attempt, according to Falola, correctly preserved legal standards by preventing unnecessary additions to the proceedings.

Mohbad’s mysterious death on September 12, 2023, sparked national controversy. Though initially buried within 24 hours, authorities exhumed his body nine days later for forensic examination. Three years later, his remains await final burial as his family continues demanding justice.

Through persistent advocacy and legal channels, Aloba’s father maintains pressure for clarity regarding the circumstances of his son’s tragic demise.
