Tennis sensation Jannik Sinner announced his withdrawal from the upcoming US Open, citing an ongoing right knee injury that requires additional recovery time.
The top-ranked player shared via official statement, “Despite rigorous rehabilitation efforts with my medical team, we’ve concluded I’m not physically ready to compete at Flushing Meadows this season.”
“Recent practice sessions in Monte Carlo confirmed my knee needs further healing before returning to tournament play,” explained the reigning Wimbledon champion.
Sinner’s absence marks his first missed Grand Slam since 2023, following his withdrawal from key US Open preparation tournaments in Cincinnati and Montreal.
The Italian star, who claimed his maiden US Open title two years ago, emotionally acknowledged, “New York holds incredible memories for me, making this decision particularly heartbreaking.”
“I was eagerly anticipating defending my points and experiencing that unmatched Arthur Ashe Stadium energy once again,” he added.
Medical reports indicate Sinner will focus on rehabilitation in Europe before potentially returning for the Asian swing tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.
The 24-year-old had been enjoying a dominant season with six titles including his historic Wimbledon triumph, boasting an impressive 44-3 match record.
His unexpected second-round exit at Roland Garros during a brutal heatwave had already raised concerns about his physical condition before the knee issues surfaced.
Meanwhile, rival Carlos Alcaraz confirmed his US Open participation following recovery from a four-month wrist injury absence.
