Anthony Joshua

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, attributed British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua’s miraculous escape from a deadly car crash to divine intervention, emphasizing the power of God’s mercy.

During the church’s monthly thanksgiving service on Sunday, Adeboye highlighted Joshua’s near-fatal accident as a testament to divine protection. The incident occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway last week, where two of Joshua’s friends tragically lost their lives.

The victims, identified as Ayodele Kelvin, a 36-year-old Nigerian-British national, and Gami Sina, a British citizen of the same age, perished in the crash, while others suffered injuries. Joshua, however, survived unscathed.

Reflecting on the event, Adeboye quoted Lamentations 3:22–23, stating, “It is by the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed. Our survival isn’t due to our wisdom but His grace.”

“Reports revealed that Anthony Joshua switched seats with someone before the accident,” Adeboye continued. “Those he exchanged seats with didn’t make it. Only God’s mercy could have orchestrated such a deliverance.”

Drawing from Psalm 89:1, the cleric emphasized the personal nature of divine favor. “David often used singular pronouns when something deeply mattered to him—‘The Lord is my shepherd’—because faith is personal,” he explained.

Urging the congregation to internalize the message, Adeboye added, “This isn’t just a sermon; it’s a personal revelation. Let it resonate within you.”
