Nollywood star IK Ogbonna has shared a heartbreaking tribute to his late friend and fellow actor Alex Ekubo, confessing that even months after his passing, he still catches himself reflexively picking up the phone to call him.

Breaking his silence in an emotional Instagram post, Ogbonna revealed how Ekubo’s untimely d£ath had profoundly altered his perspective on life and loss.

“The 11th of May marked the day I lost not just a friend but a brother, Alexx. No amount of preparation can shield you from that kind of pain,” he expressed.

Ekubo tragically succumbed to advanced metastatic kidney cancer on May 12, 2026, after being placed on life support at Evercare Hospital in Lagos.

Ogbonna reflected on the harsh reality of grief, admitting that words fall short in capturing its depth.

“You don’t truly comprehend the finality of loss until it touches your world. Until the voice you long to hear fades into silence forever. Until the seat beside you stays unoccupied. Until plans turn into ‘what ifs’ and conversations slip into cherished memories,” he penned.

The actor openly shared his struggle to process the void left behind, searching for meaning in the aftermath.

“These past months have been a journey of questioning—grappling with mortality, faith, and the unfairness of losing someone so vibrant so soon,” he admitted.

He recounted their shared aspirations, from entrepreneurial ventures to cinematic projects and dreams of globetrotting adventures.

“Alexx and I envisioned a future together—building empires, telling stories through film, exploring the world, and watching our children grow side by side.

We joked about aging fools and debated legacies, convinced time was on our side. But destiny had other plans—or maybe, Heaven needed him more,” Ogbonna wrote.

While wrestling with unanswered questions, the actor found solace in surrendering to divine wisdom.

“Though my heart still seeks explanations reason can’t provide, my faith reminds me that some mysteries remain beyond earthly understanding.”

Celebrating Ekubo’s living legacy, Ogbonna emphasized that true success transcends fame and material wealth.

“What comforts me most is knowing he didn’t just pass through life—he transformed it. His laughter was contagious, his generosity boundless.

Real success isn’t measured in wealth or accolades, but in the lives enriched by your presence.”

Ogbonna’s poignant words captured the persistence of grief in everyday moments.

“Even now, I habitually grab my phone to share a joke only to remember he’s gone. That void never disappears—you just learn to move through the world carrying it differently.”

He issued a passionate plea for readers to cherish their relationships while time allows.

“Let my loss remind you: Express love while hearts can receive it. Mend fractured bonds. Prioritize laughter over pride.

Life’s fragility demands we live with purpose—call your people today, not tomorrow.”

Concluding his tribute, Ogbonna vowed to honor their brotherhood through purposeful living.

“Alexx, you gifted me the privilege of being your chosen family. For every debate, every shared dream, every moment of trust—thank you.

Though your footsteps no longer match mine on earth, your spirit walks with me always. I’ll keep creating, loving, and leaving marks of light as you did.

Until eternity reunites us, rest powerfully, my brother. My love endures beyond time.”
