Nigerian international Chidozie Awaziem has opened up about his deep respect for ex-Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, calling him a major inspiration during his formative years in football.

The defender reminisced about their shared past, revealing that they once resided under the same roof in Jos, where their bond began.

Beyond Mikel, Awaziem also credited Real Madrid’s defensive stalwart Sergio Ramos as a key figure who shaped his approach to the game, especially in his role as a center-back.

As Nigeria prepares for their crucial AFCON knockout match against Mozambique, Awaziem reflected (via Jekanmo Fan Family): “Obi Mikel has always been my role model. Even though I play in defense, I’ve looked up to him since childhood.”

He added, “We shared a home in Jos, and our connection goes way back. He’s also a product of the same academy that nurtured me.”

On his defensive inspirations, Awaziem emphasized, “When it comes to my position, Sergio Ramos is the standard I strive to emulate.”
