Argentina skipper Lionel Messi has suggested he might skip the 2026 World Cup.

The football legend admitted he struggles to perform when not at peak physical condition.

The 38-year-old star shared these thoughts after netting two goals in Argentina’s 3-0 victory against Venezuela on Thursday.

This match could mark Messi’s final World Cup qualifier on home ground.

“I’ve mentioned previously that another World Cup seems unlikely for me.

At this stage of my career, that’s a realistic assumption,” Messi told TyC Sports.

The record eight-time Ballon d’Or winner stated his World Cup participation hinges entirely on his physical readiness.

“I’ll take it step by step – complete this season, go through preseason, then reassess my condition in six months,” he explained.
