Nigerian artist Josiah Olayemi Awosika, better known by his stage name Fido, has publicly addressed recent backlash with a sincere apology after his conduct drew widespread criticism.
The rising Afrobeats star, famous for his hit single ‘Joy Is Coming,’ expressed remorse in a candid post on his X account, acknowledging his missteps.
Fido found himself at the center of controversy after facing accusations of undermining his record label and showing discourtesy toward industry heavyweight Davido and his fanbase.
In his reflective statement, Fido admitted: “I owe an apology—not just to those I offended but to myself for losing sight of what matters.
“Fame arrived faster than I could process it. One day I was creating music in my bedroom, the next I was on stages I once only admired from afar. In that whirlwind, I didn’t always navigate the spotlight with grace.
“Certain words were spoken in haste. Decisions were influenced by the rush of new attention rather than wisdom. That version of me isn’t who I strive to be, nor who I’m working to become.
“To every fan who streamed my songs, wore my merch, or defended my name—thank you for your patience as I learn humility the hard way.
“To the Afrobeats pioneers who built this culture, my peers who’ve shown me kindness, and anyone who expected better—I own my shortcomings without excuse.
“This journey offers choices: dig deeper into defiance or embrace accountability. I’m choosing growth over ego, reflection over justification.
“True maturity isn’t about being perfect—it’s about recognizing imperfection and doing the work to improve. That’s where I stand today.
“The music I create moving forward will carry the weight of these lessons—more intentional, more authentic, born from gratitude rather than entitlement.
“To those who called me out with constructive criticism rather than condemnation, I appreciate you. Even to those who stepped back, your reaction was valid.
“This is the path forward—learning, evolving, and honoring the platform gifted to me. The best is yet to come.”
There’s no easy way to write this, so I’ll just say it plainly.
I messed up.
Stardom came into my life quickly. One minute I was dreaming about it, the next minute I was living it. And while the world was watching me grow, I was still trying to understand who I was inside that… pic.twitter.com/KDGcaE7rzT
