Prophet Joel Ogebe, leader of Sounds of Salem, stirred reactions online after sharing how he set ablaze a cheque gifted to him as an honorarium following his powerful ministration at “The African Praise Experience (TAPE) Overflow 2025.”
The worship extravaganza, TAPE Overflow, took place on July 13, drawing renowned gospel artists including Sounds of Salem, Bidemi Olaoba, and Limoblaze to the stage.
A viral video captures Ogebe recounting how, after ministering at the event hosted by House on the Rock, he received a cheque from Pastor Paul Adefarasin’s team as a gesture of appreciation—only to later burn it as an act of consecration.
In the footage, Ogebe declares, “When House on The Rock invited us to minister, they requested our account details for an honorarium, but I refused. I told my team, ‘No, we’re here to bless, not to receive.’
“After worship, the man of God, a spiritual father, insisted on blessing us with a cheque. I took it, but I had already resolved not to cash it—instead, I burned it as an offering to God.
“I told my team, ‘This money isn’t for us—it’s a sacred oblation.’
“Certain moments in life aren’t meant for financial gain but for divine growth. This was one of them. I sensed the grace upon that House and knew I was there for impartation, not payment. My true reward comes from God alone.
“A person with a carnal mindset would have cashed the cheque and called it prosperity. But money fades—what endures is the anointing. If you’re not discerning, you’ll chase payment and miss your divine mantle.”
