Stanley Nwabali

Stanley Nwabali has opened up about his heartbreak following the Super Eagles’ crushing defeat against the Democratic Republic of Congo in a high-stakes World Cup qualifier.

The match ended in a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout loss after a grueling 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time, leaving Nigeria out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive tournament.

Nwabali, who plays for South African club Chippa United, took to Instagram to share his emotions with devastated fans.

“This hurts deeply. We left everything on the pitch for our nation, but sometimes effort alone isn’t enough,” the goalkeeper wrote.

“Having cheered from the stands myself, I know the pain of disappointing results. The responsibility falls on us as players,” he added in his heartfelt post.
