Former Nigerian Vice President and presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar has extended heartfelt sympathies to heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua after a tragic auto collision in Ogun State left two fatalities.
Taking to his official X account, Atiku conveyed his sorrow over the incident, offering prayers for Joshua’s speedy recuperation.
“My heart goes out to @anthonyjoshua following today’s devastating accident along the Sagamu expressway. The boxing legend embodies perseverance, and I’m confident he’ll overcome this challenge. My thoughts are with him during this painful period,” the statement read.
The seasoned politician also expressed profound grief for the bereaved families, adding:
“Words cannot ease the pain of those mourning loved ones lost in this tragedy. May divine peace comfort the affected families as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.”
Reports indicate the collision occurred mid-morning near Makun’s Danco Filling Station when Joshua’s convoy vehicle reportedly rear-ended a parked truck.
Eyewitness accounts describe a harrowing scene where Joshua’s Lexus SUV (plate KRD 850 HN) collided violently with the stationary vehicle. While the boxing icon escaped with minor wounds, two fellow passengers succumbed to fatal injuries immediately.
“The impact was catastrophic – the front passenger and rear seat occupant perished instantly. FRSC personnel responded promptly to manage the emergency,” recounted an onlooker familiar with rescue efforts.
