Mike Ejeagha

The legendary Mike Ejeagha, a towering figure in Highlife music, whose mastery of blending Igbo folklore with soulful melodies captivated millions, has passed away at 95.

Ejeagha’s journey ended on Friday evening around 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu after battling a long-term illness.

His son, Emma Ejeagha, shared the heartbreaking update with Vanguard during a phone interview.

During the 1980s, Mike Ejeagha’s distinct brand of Igbo folk music dominated Nigerian radio, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s musical heritage.
