Afrobeats superstar Davido recently shared the heartwarming backstory behind his hit collaboration with fellow artist Omah Lay, revealing how a misunderstanding turned into a chart-topping partnership.
Last year, Omah Lay had publicly admitted his surprise when Davido played his music during a livestream, confessing he initially believed the award-winning artist disliked him.
In an exclusive interview clip making waves online, Davido recounted how he personally reached out to clarify the misunderstanding, leading to their creative synergy.
“It all started when Kai Cenat visited Nigeria,” Davido recalled. “I was showing him local music in the car, and when Omah Lay’s track came on, he asked who it was. I told him, ‘That’s Omah Lay—he’s fire.'”
“The next day, I saw Omah’s tweet saying he thought I didn’t like him until that moment,” Davido continued. “I immediately messaged him—’Why would you think that? We’d never even met!'”
“From there, we connected, exchanged ideas, and created magic in the studio. ‘With You’ emerged as the perfect blend of our styles,” the music icon added.
“Why would you think I hate you?”
