Renowned gospel artist Tope Alabi has opened up about her past struggles with relationships, disclosing that four different suitors turned her down before she finally found love with her current husband.
She explained that each time a relationship progressed toward marriage, potential partners would abruptly end things after seeking spiritual counsel.
In a candid Instagram video, the 55-year-old recounted the perplexing pattern she faced as a young woman eager to settle down. “Every time I introduced a man to my parents, something unusual would happen. They’d claim they needed to pray about it—then vanish without a trace,” Alabi shared.
The singer revealed that these rejections often carried a spiritual weight. In one instance, she discovered a former beau had consulted prophets who allegedly discouraged him from pursuing the relationship. “An intermediary later informed me that spiritual advisors had warned him against marrying me. That was just one of four men who walked away mysteriously,” she disclosed.
Alabi’s fortunes changed when her boss introduced her to her now-husband—though even that journey had its challenges. “When he proposed, I skeptically told him to first inquire about my past. True to form, he disappeared after our parents met. My father even arranged another marriage before he returned,” she recalled.
After a previous marriage to Lekan Olaoye—with whom she shares daughter Ayomikun—Alabi found lasting love with producer Soji Alabi. Together, they have three children.
Reflecting on her experiences, the gospel star affirmed, “Every rejection led me to my destiny. God’s timing is flawless—what seemed like heartbreak was divine redirection.”
“Looking back now, I see how every piece fell into place. The journey was tough, but the result was perfect,” she concluded.
