Nollywood icon Funke Akindele has once again rewritten history as her blockbuster film, “Behind the Scenes,” becomes the first Nigerian movie to cross the ₦2 billion mark at the domestic box office.
According to FilmOne, a premier film distribution company in Nigeria, Akindele’s latest project generated an unprecedented N2,103,039,706 in ticket sales during its initial four weeks of release.
In a tweet celebrating this milestone, FilmOne declared Funke Akindele as Africa’s top-grossing filmmaker, solidifying her position as the most successful producer, writer, and director in West African cinema history.
The multi-talented filmmaker has also achieved the rare distinction of being the only African director to claim the number one spot at the continental box office for three consecutive years.
Overwhelmed by the achievement, Akindele shared an emotional video on Instagram, exclaiming, “This is God’s doing! Crossing the 2 billion naira mark is beyond incredible. To the world – this is ‘Behind the Scenes’ making history!”
“My heart is bursting with gratitude to God and my incredible fans who made this dream a reality. This massive achievement wouldn’t have been possible without your unwavering support,” the ecstatic filmmaker added.
