Obesere

Renowned Fuji musician Abass ‘Obesere’ Akande suffered a staggering loss of ₦95 million in cash and valuables after a brutal ambush by hoodlums in Ondo State, according to his media aide, Ayonla Althentic.

Amonpoint News previously covered the shocking incident where Obesere and his entourage were violently assaulted on November 21 following a performance at a burial ceremony in Okitipupa.

In a Facebook statement released Wednesday, Althentic described the attack as a premeditated strike that occurred as the artist and his team were departing the event.

Althentic revealed that the assailants snatched a bag containing ₦25 million—combining earnings from a prior gig and that day’s performance—along with Obesere’s prized gold necklace (worth ₦45 million) and luxury wristwatch (valued at ₦25 million).

The harrowing account detailed: “Around 6:00 p.m., I spotted unfamiliar faces among the crowd—street boys disguised as mourners. Alhaji Obesere performed for them, unaware they were plotting an ambush.

“As we attempted to leave, a mob swarmed us, demanding money. Despite handing over ransom cash, they grew more aggressive, forcibly taking his jewelry.

“During the chaos, I was brutally assaulted—beaten with a plank, stabbed, and left unconscious after a blow to my head. When I awoke, the ₦25 million cash was gone.

“This wasn’t just a robbery; it was a coordinated assault. The losses included proceeds from Alhaji’s recent European tour, making the financial impact even more devastating.”
