Nigerian comedian Destalker has opened up about his unexpected journey into comedy, sharing a surprising revelation about his past struggles.
During a recent appearance on the *In-house Gist* podcast, the entertainer admitted he turned to comedy only after his brief and unsuccessful attempt at cybercrime.
With surprising candor, Destalker disclosed that his former partner in internet fraud is now a prominent pastor—a twist he finds both amusing and reflective of life’s unpredictability.
“Back in Enugu, I dabbled in fraud with a friend who now preaches the gospel—Rev. Nelson Umeh,” he recalled. “We used to book late-night cybercafé sessions for ₦250, but I could never afford it. He covered my fees, yet I still failed because my conscience wouldn’t let me scam people.”
“While he hunted for targets, I wasted those hours catching up with old friends on Facebook or dozing off,” he continued, chuckling. “Wasted investment? Maybe. But I knew early on that path wasn’t for me.”
“What some see as weakness—my empathy—became my strength. Even when fellow comedians tried to blacklist me from shows, I bet on myself. Now, some of those same shows don’t exist, and those comedians? Forgotten. Meanwhile, I’m still here,” he concluded with a confident smile.
