Rising Afrobeat artist Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has opened up about the unexpected challenges of stardom.

In a candid revelation, he shared how he poured his savings into a music project in 2022, anticipating a career breakthrough, but the venture fell short of expectations.

The singer admitted that returning to academics post-fame has proven difficult, as his newfound recognition disrupts campus life.

Fola, known for his hit single ‘Alone,’ revealed that while his peers once overlooked him, his current fame now makes university visits impossible.

These personal struggles were highlighted in an upcoming documentary feature with Spotify’s emerging artist program, Radar.

“Music connects souls without physical presence – that’s why it means everything to me,” Fola reflected.

“2022 was pivotal. I invested everything into my craft, but success didn’t come instantly. The irony? I went from being invisible on campus to being too visible. Fame reshaped my reality in ways I never imagined,” he confessed.

Fola’s career trajectory changed when he joined Bella Shmurda’s Dagbana Republik label in October 2024.

Following his breakout success with ‘Alone’, the talented artist has worked with industry heavyweights including Wizkid and Kizz Daniel.
