FIFA has formally annulled the Club World Cup titles formerly held by Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
The international football governing body has declared that these three Premier League clubs, as well as previous champions like Real Madrid and Barcelona, will now bear the title ‘FIFA Intercontinental Champions’.
According to The Daily Mail, FIFA has chosen to honor Chelsea as the inaugural victors of the competition.
Consequently, the Blues stand as the sole team eligible to be recognized as ‘world champions’.
Enzo Maresca’s squad dominated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in last week’s final to secure the 2025 edition of the tournament.
This year’s event featured an expanded format, with 32 teams representing six continental confederations.
The Club World Cup is set to return in 2029, with PSG, Pyramids, Al Hilal, and Cruz Azul already securing their spots after winning their respective continental titles last season.
