Keeping a promise made years ago, the Federal Government has formally handed over an allocation letter for a residential property in Abuja to Efan Ekoku, a key player in Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning Super Eagles team.
Lisa Jennifer Nwagbogun, Ekoku’s niece, accepted the document during the event in the nation’s capital.
QS Pemi Temitope, Director and Head of the Department of Public Building and Housing Development, delivered the letter as the representative of Housing and Urban Development Minister Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa.
Temitope reiterated the government’s dedication to keeping its commitments and acknowledging the national service of the 1994 Super Eagles team.
In response, Nwagbogun thanked the authorities, stating, “My uncle and our family sincerely appreciate the Federal Government and the Housing Ministry for finally making good on this promise.”
Originally pledged in 1994 during their victory, the housing initiative for the team was authorized in 2022 by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari after years of delay.
The nationwide distribution of homes to the players serves as recognition of their role in elevating Nigeria’s football legacy and uniting the country through sport.
