Femi Kuti

Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti, son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has addressed the heated debate surrounding comparisons between global superstar Wizkid and his late father.

The controversy erupted after Wizkid boldly asserted his stature surpasses Fela’s legacy, responding to Seun Kuti’s critique of fans likening the “Essence” hitmaker to the Afrobeat pioneer.

In an exclusive Arise TV interview from Los Angeles, Femi expressed disappointment over the feud, revealing his close ties to both artists involved. He emphasized that such disputes distract from more pressing societal issues Nigerian musicians should champion.

The Grammy-nominated artist firmly stated that Fela occupies a unique space in music history that transcends modern comparisons. He urged younger artists to honor rather than challenge the Afrobeat legend’s unparalleled contributions.

“Fela remains our musical compass,” Femi remarked. “He carved a path no artist can replicate. These debates about who’s greater miss the point entirely – we should be celebrating his legacy while fighting for Nigeria’s future.”

Regarding the Wizkid-Seun clash, Femi diplomatically added: “This isn’t a conversation we should be having. Both are talented artists I respect deeply. Our energy would be better spent demanding good governance.”

The musical ambassador currently prepares for a historic moment at the 2026 Grammy Awards, where he’ll accept Fela’s Lifetime Achievement Award – cementing the Kuti dynasty’s enduring global influence.
