Ifunanya Nwangene

The grieving father of late Nigerian artist Ifunanya Nwangene, widely recognized by her stage name Nanyah, has shared the devastating final words his daughter uttered before succumbing to a venomous snakebite.

Amonpoint News confirms that the 26-year-old musician tragically passed away after being bitten by a snake while sleeping in her residence.

Upon discovering the bite, she urgently sought medical assistance and was rushed to multiple hospitals, but unfortunately, she could not be saved.

In an emotional interview with BBC Igbo, her father, Christopher Nwangene, recounted the harrowing sequence of events.

He revealed that his daughter contacted him at approximately 9:15 am, frantically informing him about the snakebite.

Overwhelmed with panic, he immediately inquired about her location and the medical attention she was receiving.

According to him, Nanyah initially visited a hospital where staff informed her they lacked the necessary anti-venom.

She then proceeded to another facility, only to receive the same disheartening news.

Eventually, she was directed to the Federal Medical Centre, where the required treatment was reportedly available.

She traveled there via Uber, while her father swiftly arranged for his brother to meet her at the hospital.

Upon arrival, his brother found her receiving intravenous treatment. Shortly after, Christopher called her again.

During that final conversation, she gasped, “Daddy, I can’t breathe.” When he pressed for details, she weakly responded, “I don’t know.”

Those were her last words before she passed away.

He recounted, “She called me around 9:15am, saying a snake had bitten her. I asked where she was and what the doctors were doing.

“I contacted my brother immediately, urging him to go to the hospital. When I called her back, she struggled to speak—‘Daddy, I can’t breathe.’ I asked what was wrong, and she whispered, ‘I don’t know.’”
