Renowned Nollywood icon Jide Kosoko has shared his heartfelt reflections on being named the Oloja of Lagos-elect, emphasizing the deep cultural significance and duty embedded in the prestigious role.
At 72, the veteran actor was officially introduced as the Oloja-elect on January 24 at the Elereko of Lagos’ palace, heralding a transformative phase in his life beyond the silver screen.
In a recent interview, Kosoko conveyed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the honor, describing it as a recognition of his contributions. He remained noncommittal, however, about whether this traditional position would influence his future acting engagements.
Fellow Nollywood star Bolaji Amusan, widely known as Mr Latin, lauded Kosoko’s appointment, affirming that it highlights the integrity and societal impact of entertainers. “Among many qualified princes, Jide’s wisdom and community standing set him apart for this esteemed role,” Amusan remarked.
Kosoko’s new title places him among a distinguished group of entertainers who have embraced chieftaincy duties, including comedian Okey Bakassi, who was crowned a monarch in Imo State in recent years.
The Oloja of Lagos throne had remained unoccupied since the passing of Chief Adebola Ige in 2017, making Kosoko’s selection a significant milestone.
Mrs. Mutiat Ali-Balogun, the Olori Ebi General of the King Kosoko Royal Family, presided over the ceremonial announcement, presenting Kosoko before the royal assembly. With traditional blessings concluded, she and Deputy Olori Ebi General Oyindamola Ayepola affirmed his readiness for the revered position.
