Popular Nigerian rapper Erigga has voiced his concerns about the growing influence of internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo boys,” on modern relationships.
During a candid interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the artist highlighted how these scammers have reshaped romantic expectations, making genuine connections increasingly rare.
Erigga pointed out that the lavish spending habits of fraudsters have distorted women’s perceptions, leaving honest men struggling to compete in today’s materialistic dating scene.
“Yahoo boys have killed romance. Authentic love is disappearing—when was the last time you spotted a couple holding hands in public? The issue stems from men who tie their worth solely to money, creating unrealistic standards,” he remarked.
“Relationships used to thrive on simple gestures—meat pies, Fanta at Mr Biggs—and women appreciated it. But weak men raised the stakes, and women followed suit. Now, love feels transactional.”
The rapper encouraged men to redefine their value beyond financial status, emphasizing emotional intelligence and personal growth as more meaningful ways to attract genuine partners.
