The legendary artist, renowned for preserving Igbo folklore through music, bid farewell on Friday, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s cultural landscape.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Governor Peter Mbah lauded Ejeagha’s extraordinary gift for weaving everyday folktales into soul-stirring musical masterpieces.
“Gentleman Mike was more than an artist—he was a cultural torchbearer and Enugu’s pride.
“With effortless charm and unmatched artistry, his music bridged generations. That unmistakable voice made him an icon beyond borders,” wrote Mbah.
Highlighting the musician’s brilliance, the governor noted, “Mike possessed the rare magic of transforming village tales into timeless anthems that spoke to souls everywhere.”
The tribute captured the collective grief, emphasizing how Ejeagha’s departure creates a cultural chasm.
“While his absence leaves a profound silence, his melodies will echo through ages,” Mbah reflected.
Assuring full governmental support, the governor vowed to establish lasting tributes to immortalize the maestro’s contributions.
His message culminated with a poignant farewell: “May God’s embrace comfort his loved ones. The world won’t forget the Gentleman of Highlife.”
