Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has been released by Barnsley.

The club announced that the player will be permitted to depart during the current transfer window.

This decision was confirmed by the team’s head coach, Conor Hourihane.

Hourihane stated that Nwakali will be allowed to exit the League One side.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since returning late from a holiday in Nigeria, leading to his exclusion from first-team training.

As a result, he missed games against Plymouth Argyle, Burton Albion, Fleetwood Town, and Bolton Wanderers.

Nwakali’s career has often been hampered by disciplinary problems, including a prior dismissal from Spanish club Huesca for similar reasons.

“Obviously, there’s a couple of weeks left in the window. Let’s see where it takes us,” Hourihane remarked.

When questioned directly about Nwakali’s departure, he responded firmly, “Yes, that’s the plan.”
