Paul Pogba was overcome with emotion on Saturday as he finalized a two-year contract with AS Monaco, marking his return to professional football after a lengthy hiatus.
The 32-year-old French midfielder had been a free agent since Juventus terminated his contract last year due to a doping violation.
In August 2023, the World Cup champion received a four-year suspension after a failed doping test, but this was later reduced to 18 months in October of the same year.
Although his ban concluded earlier this year, Pogba and Juventus had already parted ways before that.
His last appearance on the pitch was in September 2023, but Monaco’s offer has given him the chance to revive his career in Ligue 1.
Pogba appeared visibly moved as he signed the agreement with AS Monaco.
The footage shows him resting his head on his arm, struggling to hold back tears before putting pen to paper.
After signing, he bowed his head once more, clearly emotional, while being consoled by one of his representatives and Monaco’s sporting director, Thiago Scuro.
