Borussia Dortmund has secured the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.

The 21-year-old finalized his deal on Tuesday, August 26, committing to the Bundesliga club until 2030.

Chukwuemeka joins Dortmund permanently for a reported €25 million ($29 million) after a successful loan spell last season. Despite injury challenges, he featured in 17 matches, scoring once and contributing to Dortmund’s Club World Cup quarter-final run.

In an official statement, Chukwuemeka shared his excitement: “I’m thrilled to call Borussia Dortmund my new home. I’ll give my all to help the team succeed.”

Born in Austria and developed in England, Chukwuemeka rose through Aston Villa’s youth ranks before moving to Chelsea in 2022. His technical skills have cemented his reputation as a promising midfield talent.

Dortmund’s sporting director Lars Ricken hailed the acquisition: “Carney enhances our attacking midfield with his creativity and vision. We’re excited to have him.”

This signing follows Dortmund’s summer recruitment drive, including Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland) and Yan Couto (Manchester City). Jobe follows his brother Jude, who left Dortmund for Real Madrid in a €100 million ($117 million) deal in 2023.

Reports from Bild suggest Dortmund may pursue two more Premier League players before the transfer deadline, with Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino and Wolves’ Fabio Silva on their radar. A potential return for Jadon Sancho, who previously played for Dortmund and recently loaned at Chelsea, is also rumored.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dortmund confirmed head coach Niko Kovac’s contract extension until 2027, reinforcing stability as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
