Oludipe David, the renowned Nigerian vocalist professionally known as Spyro, has voiced concerns over the diminishing substance in contemporary music.
The artist, a staunch supporter of purposeful music, emphasized that the erosion of meaningful lyrics has played a major role in society’s ethical downturn.
During an appearance on the Adesope Live podcast, Spyro remarked, “Earlier, musicians conveyed profound messages irrespective of their genre. Today, it’s all about superficial entertainment—just vibes, no depth.”
“While catchy rhythms have their place, I believe music has strayed from its core essence. In the past, songs evoked deep emotions. How can we merge meaningful storytelling with modern beats?”
“Much of today’s moral decay stems from music’s lost purpose. Many artists prioritize profit over artistry. We need to realign our craft with impactful messages.”
