During a recent interview, the multihyphenate artist disclosed his golden rule: he refuses to purchase gifts for any romantic partner unless he has previously given his mother an equivalent or superior present.
The Michigan-born entertainer explained this principle stems from his values, stating it would feel inappropriate to prioritize a girlfriend over his parent. He emphasized that despite public perception, he maintains strict spending limits in relationships.
DDG provided concrete examples, noting that before gifting a watch to any significant other, he ensured his mother received one first. This rule extends to major purchases like vehicles, with the rapper revealing he’s bought several cars for his mom over the years.
While comfortable splurging on experiences, the Internet personality drew clear lines at financial commitments. He firmly opposes paying a partner’s living expenses or buying property solely for them, though he would consider co-investing in shared living spaces.
