Nigerian music icon D’banj has opened up about the dissolution of Mo’Hits Records, disclosing that it was his longtime collaborator, producer Don Jazzy, who initiated their separation.
The legendary music duo shocked fans in 2012 when Don Jazzy publicly announced the end of Mo’Hits, attributing the split to creative differences.
During a candid conversation on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On podcast, D’banj asserted that Don Jazzy was solely responsible for the label’s breakup.
“Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey with Don Jazzy—especially since the decision to part ways was entirely his. That’s why there’s no bitterness between us.
“Jazzy generously handed over my complete discography, plus about ten unreleased tracks… While he had his perspective, I believed we were on the verge of global domination. Thankfully, our final collaboration ‘Oliver Twist’ still achieved massive success,” D’banj reflected.
The ‘Kokomaster’ emphasized that their separation was fate, expressing no regrets about the split.
Still, he confessed to missing their creative synergy.
“The separation was 100% Don Jazzy’s call… He transferred full rights to my music catalog and even included unreleased material.”
