Afrobeats superstar Davido recently revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes story about his chart-topping single With You, featuring Omah Lay, which almost missed inclusion on his critically acclaimed 5IVE album.
In an exclusive interview with OkayAfrica, later shared by HYPETRIBE, the Grammy-nominated artist disclosed that his creative team didn’t initially rate the track during preview sessions.
“It’s wild when I think about it now—that song barely made the cut. Nobody had With You in their top picks during our listening parties,” the OBO crooner confessed.
Davido described experiencing profound gratitude during live performances after witnessing the song’s explosive reception, saying it serves as a reminder to trust his artistic instincts.
“Now when I perform it, I get chills imagining what if I’d listened to the doubts? That song has become something special,” he reflected emotionally.
The TikTok viral anthem not only earned Davido his second Grammy nod but also smashed streaming records, crossing the 100 million milestone on Spotify alone.
Recalling the nomination announcement, the Unavailable hitmaker painted a vivid picture of receiving the life-changing news unexpectedly while car shopping in Dubai ahead of his birthday celebrations.
“My phone rang, and they’re like ‘Congratulations on another Grammy nomination!’ I just stood there in that showroom thanking God,” Davido recounted with visible excitement.
The music icon also dropped exciting future plans, confirming his historic appearance as the sole Nigerian act booked for Coachella 2026.
Fans can catch the DMW boss delivering high-energy performances on consecutive Saturdays—April 11 and 18—at the iconic Indio festival grounds.
“Tour mode activated! New music coming, plus this Coachella moment—we’re taking Afrobeats global,” he teased about his upcoming projects.
“Its so Crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album & when it finally blew up, everytime i was performing it my heart just starts beating like what if I didn’t put this song”
